IoT, wearables and adoption

Well, It has been a few years since I have posted on this site. Much has happened in 3 years.  Let me dive into my thoughts first. The adoption of #wearable device, the IoT has gained significant growth. As I have mentioned, health and wellness sector of healthcare, or the consumer side, the part of healthcare not under legal and policy restraints, will drive adoption and transformation. I'll provide some data points in a follow up entry.
Health and wellness data collection can be passive or active. Once we cross the gap from active to passive data collection devices, the rate of adoption will increase. Active data collection is when I have an app that needs data like pulse, weight, etc entered into in manually.  Passive data collection is when the device, collects the data and enters it into the without a person having to manually enter it or can track the data itself.
2015 will be a year of many policy changes and consumer adoption. by 2017, the healthcare model will start to show its new form. Are you ready for change?

Cisco Healthcare Summit - Pittsburgh

I had the opportunity today to attend the Cisco Healthcare Summit in Pittsburgh at the Cisco office. Before I talk abou tthat, let me talk about one of my favorite shows. NCIS-LA. I turned on my DVR, sat down and began to watch the story unfold. Dekes best friend growing up and his snitch turned in an arms dealer. This dealer was going to get his revenge. So, what do our agents do, stage a killing. Now without going into all the details of the episode, there were a few scenes where the CIUS was used. Very cool. Great product placement. So, as I walked in to the office this morning the last thing on my mind was the CIUS. I was here to learn about Cisco's Telepresence.

I knew Cisco was a communications company but I did not know about the extent of their work in servers, cloud computing and virtualization. Great products and great solutions. For the kid in me though all I could think of was, I have the opportunity to play with the Cisco CIUS.

It's Cisco foray into the tablet world. Although, I do not like the term tablet since tablets have been around for many years. I am not sure what to call them, notepad? Appple started the trend with the Ipad and now everyone from Motorola, Samsung, Viewsonic and now Cisco. Although I did not have much time to play with it, wanted to take it home. Some of the features include HD output, USB port and built in web wex in a stylish 7"in form with 802.11a/b/n/g, ethernet port, bluetooth 3.o,3G/4G and 5mp rear facing cameras with built in support for a suite of cisco communications services. As a healthcare professional, there is tremendous opportunity for cisco with this product as it integrates into their unified communications.
